One of Those Good News/Bad News Days

5 August 2006

The good news is that my test earlier — posting something from a Blogsome pop-up window opened at another web page — seems to have worked exactly the way it was supposed to.  Which means if I see something elsewhere I think might interest y’all, I can post on it then and there, with an auto-link, instead of trying to remember later where I found it, and do the link manually.  This feature may or may not get much use, depending on my surfing on a given day!

Bad news is that Paradox refused to read the CD backup of the "Books" database table and form I created on the old machine, and I couldn’t even get a DIR reading when I went to the DOS prompt; it claimed a CRC error on the CD.  So I found a CD repair program and ran that (still hoping against hope to save several weeks’ part-time work), and it said the CD was fine!  ::whimper::

So it looks like I’m going to have to start the whole blasted thing from scratch again!  With over a thousand books in my library, re-doing it all is going to take time … but it’s the only way I know of to find what’s in the various anthologies and omnibus volumes without searching through every one of them every time I need to look something up.

Yes, of course I’ll still do backups anyway!  I might actually get lucky and have one work someday …

Test

This is a test of a Blogsome feature called "Press It" — and it looks like it works just as advertised, though I won’t be positive until I publish the post and see what it looks like.

Since I like even my tests to have a point, I went to a page which shows a somewhat  (double treadles instead of my single) newer picture of my spinning wheel, an Ashford Traveller.  Mine has the single drive Scotch tension — I can’t remember if the double drive was an option when I got it or not, but I’m quite happy with it just as it is!
