Nice Day!
Comfortable temperature, gentle breeze, beautifully sunny — today was one of those great days to be cherished.
Not a lot on the yard sale scene, but I did find two nice jigsaw puzzles (a bit overpriced, by local standards, but the lady swore they’re complete, so I spent the extra), and several ties at a nickel apiece for the friend we meet in Dover on weekends for breakfast. (He needs loads of ties for work, since they have a tendency to get stained, so I pick up any that look work-place-y, and he pays me for ‘em. Seems to think a buck or less is a lot better than store prices, and the ones I’ve found so far have been in very good condition.)
I also decided it was about time to start filling the "storm stash" for the hurricane and snowstorm seasons, so I canned a bunch of lima beans, which we both love. No, we don’t get many hurricanes — a bunch of tail ends, though — and most snows are cleared within a day or two, but it’s no extra work to keep some extra supplies (including stuff that can be eaten without cooking, in case the electricity goes off) just in case. Come about March or April, the stash goes back into the regular supply, to be replaced around mid-August. (Or when harvest starts, but I couldn’t manage much of a garden this year, thanks to a health problem, so we’re stuck with store-bought, darn it!)
Ah, well, as the old saying goes, can’t win ‘em all! Next year, back to the good garden stuff!
