Fall Cleaning, Installment 1
Since I wasn’t able to do spring cleaning this year, even late enough to call it summer cleaning — heck, Mr. Empire wouldn’t even let me wrestle the vacuum cleaner around until last month, never mind moving furniture! — I’ve been dreading the fall cleaning, but knowing that it absolutely had to be done, and putting it off wouldn’t make it any better.
Today I finally worked up the nerve to get started on my office/workshop, which needs the most work since it’s used the most, and for the greatest variety. The second-neediest is Mr. E’s workshop, but he gets to do that one!
Not counting scrubbing the carpet or doing the bookcases (those’ll take about a day each, at a guess), I’d say I got about half the room done. At this point I can’t even say it looks a great deal better, but I did empty out the one "dead" corner where my workbench and sewing machine table almost touch corners (found a whole box of green Merino top, and a wrist distaff full of the Golden Embers Merino/kid mohair mix I thought I’d finished, so it wasn’t a total loss!). I hadn’t touched "the corner" in longer than I can remember, except occasionally to move what was on top, so that was an adventure in itself!
Repaired my stool, dumped the niddy-noddies in favor of my new swift, and worked on filling the trashcan with stuff I wasn’t really using and probably wouldn’t — I’m sure you all know the routine!
Tomorrow will be a split day, since Mr. E plans to go out for our usual Wednesday OFFA flying get-together. I’m hoping to get at least a little bit more done in here, as well, but that depends in large part on how late we’re out at the field, and how hot it is while we are out. We shall see. But Thursday is mowing day, so that’ll be a cleaning day for me. Wish me luck finishing the simple stuff, and maybe getting started on the (ow) bookcase.
