Labor Day Storm?

28 August 2006

According to current forecasts, Ernesto is going to be hitting this area pretty hard on Sunday and Monday.  I will freely admit we need some rain rather desperately — we haven’t had any worth mentioning all month — but something less drastic than hurricane or tropical storm remnants would be a lot more welcome!  I wish I could think of some way to tempt Ed the Weatherman over here; his forecasts, despite (or maybe because of) the fact that he’s not a pro are the most accurate I’ve ever seen.

Well, it is hurricane season, and I do have a storm stash.  There’s just one problem: my low-fat diet quit working, so Mr. Empire and I have both gone on Atkins, and I don’t have an Atkins-compatible section.  emoticon  Which means I’m going to have to do a rush job of putting at least a small one in before then.  Like I really love what I would guess is available …  Not that I expect to need it, at least this time; unlike when we were in Dover, we rarely lose power here for more than an hour or two, which is no problem.

  1. I’ll believe it’s going to hit when Ed says “it’s going to hit.”

  2. Here’s what Ed is saying this morning:

Ernesto finally looks to be picking up strength per satellite loop, and reformation of center closer to thunderstorms Northeast of original LLCS means an extra couple of hours to intensify before hitting near Miami

Again, for Florida, not a super-mondo deal, but a good excuse to stay home from work.

  3. Yeah, I’ll go along with your #1, but I’ve not yet seen Ed mention the Delmarva Peninsula, so I have to go by other reports. The track at the moment shows it heading west of us. That’s good because it’ll weaken over land, but on the other hand, the east side is the stronger one.

Either way, it looks like it’s shaping up to be a stormy weekend.
