Assorted Snippets

19 July 2006

I’ve got a lot to pass along, but none of the items is lengthy enough to justify a separate post, so this "snippets" is the result.

So far, my outgoing e-mail still won’t, and Ron doesn’t have the Ancient Machine hooked back up for me to try sending on that.

We went out to the field today for the weekly Old Flying Fart’s get-together, and I was able to confirm that the Newsletter’s originator will be taking it over again — excellent news, as I think he’s the best one for that particular job!  He should make it interesting again, instead of essentially the minutes of the last meeting.

Unfortunately, I forgot to ask him if he knows anyone who has one or two handspinning-quality fleeces for sale … I’ve got about half a gray Borderdale to comb and spin, and a little bit of a Merino/kid mohair top I bought years ago left, and those won’t hold me long!  (I trashed the rest of the "desperation fleece" I had left, since I had no intention of going back to it!)

Other than the e-mail problem, I’m very pleased so far with my new computer, especially after using a 14-year-old one!  It’s no help for grabbing stuff from the ‘Net, since it can’t do anything about my Very Slow Connection, but on anything internal, WOW!  From "is this ever going to get done" I’m to "barely able to blink and it’s done!"  Now to find my WordPerfect/Paradox disk, get those loaded, and ::sigh:: recreate the catalog I had well-started of all the books in my personal library.   That I’m not looking forward to, but it was really nice being able to find things no matter where in the house they were shelved …

Well, I’ve probably bored you enough for the evening.  Take care, and feel free to use this as an open thread.  :)

::Sigh::

10 July 2006

This is getting annoying.  I know I need a new computer — I’m using my 14-year-old backup now, since my "new" one died, and Win98/IE were never all that stable anyway — but I’m getting tired of losing every third or fourth post I try to write!  I was ready to post one on the NY doctor who apparently tried to commit suicide by blowing up a building of his (hard  to believe of a doctor, or was), hit "post", and the comp made a weird noise and I lost my connection.

Well, I suppose I should be happy that at least this time IE didn’t crash and I didn’t get the Blue Screen of Death, just lost the post.

Off to the Picnic

9 July 2006

Well, we’re off to the Kent County Aero Modeller’s annual club picnic.  It got rained out two weeks ago, when it was originally scheduled (3" worth, at that!) but today is sunny, clear, calm winds, and only predicted to hit the lower 80s — perfect day for a picnic!

Since I’ll very probably be gone until mid or late afternoon Eastern, this will serve as today’s open thread.  :)   I’ll post a report on the picnic as soon as I get it written when we get back … hopefully I won’t have to report any crashes or planes lost in the surrounding cornfield!
